Our Story
Born and raised in Morganton, NC, Jared Harbison grew up in a supportive home where responsibility, respect, and service were deeply valued. His father, Raymond, a U.S. Army veteran, played a pivotal role in shaping his character, instilling life skills, spiritual values, and a heart for service. Raymond’s dedication to mentoring through Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the local athletic association, and the Burke County Youth Detention Center left a lasting impression on Jared.

In 2006, at just 11 years old, Jared’s world changed when his father passed away unexpectedly. Struggling with grief and searching for identity, he faced many challenges. Yet, through the guidance of multiple mentors, he found purpose in his pain and discovered his God given calling to serve and unite community for purpose.
In 2024, Jared purchased 20 acres in Morganton to establish a homestead and provide a permanent space for The Overflow. The organization became a 501(c)(3) after Jared’s successful operation of a community garden at his great-grandmother’s home. Witnessing the joy it brought to his 95-year-old great-grandmother, widows, and neighbors, he saw firsthand how fresh produce and shared work could unite a community.

Jared brings more than a decade of leadership experience, including roles in manufacturing, and is now a certified Life Purpose Coach. He is also a 2025 graduate from the NC Farm School through NC State Extension, further strengthening his expertise in sustainable agriculture and land stewardship. Jared enjoys fishing, cooking, and spending time in nature. He has an older brother, Donavon, and mother, Donna.
