Building More Than a Hive: Lessons from Our Beekeeping Workshop

The day started with curiosity—questions about bees, how they live, and why they matter. As the boys learned, bees are not just insects… they are essential to our food system and our environment.
They discovered:
Bees pollinate the crops we rely on every day
Every bee has a role—queen, worker, and drone
A hive only works when each part does its job
As we shared during the workshop, “a hive works because each bee stays in its role.”
When it came time to set up the hive, the boys slowed down. They focused. They worked together. They handled frames, helped position the hive, and followed instructions carefully—knowing that what they were building mattered.
They learned that:
Small details matter (spacing, structure, placement)
Rushing leads to mistakes
Working together leads to success
We are incredibly grateful for the mentors who showed up, guided, and invested their time. We’re thankful for the opportunity to create hands-on experiences that go beyond learning—experiences that shape character, build confidence, and plant seeds of purpose.
