Earth Day & Seed Starters

In honor of Earth Day, we had the opportunity to spend Sunday afternoon with children and youth from the NAACP Youth Council at Willow Tree AME Church for a hands-on seed starting workshop—and it was a powerful reminder that small actions can create lasting impact.

Together, we planted tomatoes, melons, squash, and cucumbers. These seeds will begin their journey in our grow house before being transferred into the garden at The Overflow. Over time, these plants will grow into fresh food that will be shared with families in our community.

But this afternoon was about more than just planting seeds. It was about teaching the next generation how to care for the earth, understand where their food comes from, and see how their actions can make a real difference. From getting their hands in the soil to learning the process of how food is grown and shared, these young leaders stepped into something bigger than themselves.

And they did an incredible job!
