Seed Starter Class

Saturday at The Overflow, our participants learned that food doesn’t start at the grocery store — it starts with responsibility.
During our Seeds of Purpose workshop, we asked a simple question:Does everyone in Burke County have enough food?
Anchored in Proverbs 12:11 — “Those who work their land will have abundant food” — the boys talked about food insecurity. They learned that one in five children in Burke County face food insecurity and what it means to become producers instead of consumers.
They learned the science behind seed starting, the stages of plant growth, and how small mistakes can impact real outcomes. Each tray planted represents future meals. The boys planted tomatoes, cucumbers, and okra and placed the trays under lights in the grow house.

After the workshop, they enjoyed time playing cornhole and basketball. They said they can’t wait to tell their friends how much fun they had and invite them next time.
At The Overflow we are forming young men who understand that growth requires focus, discipline, and steady work — and that learning can be both meaningful and fun.
Thank you for making opportunities like this possible by supporting our organization.
